New schools built in Gogrial, Aweil East

Greater Bahr El Ghazal towns of Gogrial East and Aweil East have received newly constructed classrooms in Aker Abouk and Amerjal Primary schools.

The schools were built with contribution from the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development (DFID) provided through UNICEF.

John Makom Yel, Head teacher of Amar-Jal Primary School since the new classrooms were built, enrollment has almost doubled with 40 percent of the pupils being girls.

Director-General in the State Ministry of General Education and Instruction, Adreno Kiir Ayuel described the building of the school as a positive development for Warrap State.

He said Warrap has been ranked as the state with the second lowest net enrolment rate of school–going children in South Sudan

UNICEF’s Chief of Field Office in Greater Bahr el Ghazal, Mr. Tom White said through construction of child-friendly schools, UNICEF hopes that the number of children enrolling and completing school will increase significantly.
