Lainya displaced receives humanitarian aids

Authorities in Lainya says members of the internally displaced persons in the area have started receiving assortment of food items after thousands suffered for many months without food. The relief food was donated by world food program as part of its humanitarian support to the needy population in the area. Lainya County commissioner Augustino Kiri confirmed to Radio tamazuj that more than 9,000 IDPs stationed in Lokwili and Loka areas have already received their food ratio while more than 8,000 IDPs are still missing. “For the first time since July we did not received food but today we have received an emergency food relief items totalling to 240 metric tons of assorted food items that is to say sorghum, beans and cooking oil from the world food program. These food items are distributed in two different centres that is loka west and Lokwili. In summary 9,117 people have received food items and more than 8000 people are without food” Augustino lamented that with the arrival of the food assistance, there is high hope that peace is soon returning to the state. He says the county is still lacking medical supplies and calls on partners to join hands in supporting the vulnerable people of Lainya County. Meanwhile one of the elderly IDP Lokudu Yosepa thanked WFP for the emergency food relief. “ I really don’t have to say but I need to thank this organisation for helping us the people of Lainya county because we have suffered and I am sure this food assistance will help us a lot”
