Four S Sudanese refugees wounded in fighting with host community at Bidi-Bidi camp

At least four South Sudanese refugees were wounded in Uganda’s Bidi-Bidi refugee camp after clashes erupted between the host community and South Sudanese refugees earlier last week.

Simon Lado, one of the elders at the refugee camp, told Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday that four refugees were wounded after being attacked with Pangas by some members of the host community.

“We have been given only one Primary school and it is accommodating nearly 5,000 children and you can imagine how difficult the situation is. Secondly, the problem began when rumours circulated around that a woman refugee poisoned a child, and then the fight began. No one has died but four refugees were wounded seriously,” Lado said.

Lado revealed that the humanitarian situation of the refugees in the camp is dire and they are lacking basic services like health and education. He pointed out that the number of South Sudan refugee is increasing daily putting a strain on the little resources provided to them.
