11 killed, 13 wounded in Duk cattle raid

At least 11 people were killed and 13 others wounded in clashes between local youth and cattle raiders from the Murle tribe after an attack on a cattle camp in Northeast Duk County in South Sudan’s Jonglei State, a top state official said.

Philip Aguer Panyang, Governor of Jonglei State, Radio Tamazuj today that eight people from Duk were killed and 13 others wounded after an attack on Palooc cattle camp by cattle raiders. He pointed out that three attackers were killed in clashes and that the raiders couldn’t take cattle.

Separately, Aguer pointed out that there was another incident in Bor East County where two children were abducted and another child was wounded between Bor town and Mareng area on Sunday afternoon.  

The state official noted that the wounded child is now receiving treatment at Bor Hospital.

When asked about the identity of the abductors, Aguer said he didn’t know those who were involved in incident. However, he said that the child abductions are usually carried out by Murle youth.

For his part, John Achuan, Boma Minister of Information, said that they are aware of the incident which took place in Bor.He alleged that they were not given more details about the incident so they could coordinate with the local authorities in Boma State.
