Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Friday morning confirmed that his predecessor Robert Mugabe has died at the age of 95.

Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Friday morning confirmed that his predecessor Robert Mugabe has died at the age of 95.

Mugabe passed away in Singapore where he had been seeking treatment.

"It is with the utmost sadness that I announce the passing on of Zimbabwe's founding father and former President, Cde Robert Mugabe," Mnangagwa posted on Twitter on Friday.

"His contribution to the history of our nation and continent will never be forgotten. May his soul rest in eternal peace," he added.

Mugabe was forced to step down by the military in November 2017 following protests. He had ruled the country for close to four decades.
