A cross-section of residents of Zalingei town in Central Darfur State have raised concerns about the deteriorating health conditions in the area in recent weeks.
The Executive Director of the Humanitarian Development Organization in Central Darfur, Adam Mohamed Ahmed, told Radio Tamazuj on Friday that citizens in Zalingei lack medicine and foodstuffs.
“The security aspect is stable and people have begun to live their normal lives, but daily expenses are constantly increasing and fuel prices are rising,” Mohammed explained.
He revealed that the Red Crescent in the state is helping the displaced in the Hasahisa camp and some neighborhoods in Central Darfur with meals, but pregnant women, and children are still lacking services.
A Zalingei resident, Ahmed Ishaq, confirmed that citizens in Zalingei need urgent humanitarian aid and there is a clear scarcity in all services.
“When are the organizations of the international humanitarian community rushing to save the people of the state and the camps for the displaced from hunger?” Ishaq asked.
Another Zalingei citizen, Adam Ali Adam, who works as a journalist and researcher, pointed out t that the health situation is deteriorating in Zalingei, indicating that some hospitals are still working only because of donations made by charitable people.
“Food supplies have run out and humanitarian organizations cannot deliver aid due to the deteriorating security situation,” he said.
