Zain South Sudan has resumed its operations in the Abyei Special Administrative Area (ASAA) after two months’ disruption due to technical problems, officials said.
Abyei’s Information, Communication, Telecommunication and Postal Services Minister Bulis Koch told Radio Tamazuj on Friday that his office had contacted the Zain technicians two months ago as their network appeared inactive and they responded.
He said the local community benefited from Zain as an alternative if MTN communication network went off.
“I have been contacting the national communication authority and their technicians started their repairs in Wau, Aweil and today they managed to repair our damaged part and it is on now as I speak,” he said.
Koch revealed that the company technicians had been robbed between Abyei and Twic County.
He said the technicians had not alerted him of their arrival in Wunrock Payam in Twic County of Warrap State, as advised, hence their falling victims to the robbers.
The minister said the security situation was stable along the Abyei, Twic, Ruweng, Aweil and Unity State borders, except for isolated cases.
Abyei resident Amal Agal said Zain network was helpful to her for its reliability on international calls.
Achok Deng said the Zain network was good for easy communication because of its reliability.
