The minister of information in South Sudan’s Maiwut State announced that the Zain network that went down for five years resumed functioning on Monday.
Baruach Uluch Akolaton told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that the network went off-air five years ago due to the country’s civil war.
“I want to announce that the Zain network has resumed functioning in Maiwut and Pagak areas and it will be functioning in the area of Mathiang soon,” he said.
“The network went down after the conflict erupted in December 2013. Our citizens have been suffering because there was no mobile network in the state,” he added.
The state minister said local residents were happy with the resumption of the Zain mobile network in the state.” Citizens in Maiwut State can now call their relatives after the network resumed,” he said.
According to Akolaton, the company has promised to expand its operations in the state to tap into the rising demand for mobile services.
“After the Zain network resumed its work in the state, many money transfer agencies came to operate in the state, so this will help in terms of development,” he said.
