Zain’s communication network has now reached the residents of Pinydit Madut Akuei village in Toch West Payam, Gogrial East County, connecting them to the global community. Launched last Thursday, the network has a capacity ranging from 65-75 meters high and covers an area of 20-25 square kilometers in savanna, with additional coverage in swampy areas.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Isaac Mawien Kom, the Toch West Payam administrator, highlighted the significance of the Zain network, emphasizing its role in connecting communities, reducing insecurity, and improving communication within the village. He expressed gratitude to Zain Telecommunications Network company officials for enhancing communication in the region.
“The Zain Telecommunication Network in Toch West Payam, Pinydit village, is very important, and we are pleased with Zain authorities for connecting communities around,” Mawien stated. He noted that communication has become easier, enabling interactions with neighbours in Greater Gogrial West County and within Gogrial East County.
Mawien emphasized that the communication network contributes to improved security and swift access to health centers, facilitating better communication during emergencies. He explained, “Communication will enhance security between us and Gogrial West County. During the Aguek-Apuk communal conflict of 2018-2019, it was challenging to understand the plans of other communities. Now, it will be easier to communicate with our counterparts in Gogrial West and Tonj North counties in case of insecurity, allowing us to address the situation promptly.”
Excitement filled residents of Pinydit Madut Akuei as the Zain Telecommunication Network was installed, offering a range of benefits, including internet services. Local resident John Chol expressed his anticipation, citing the network’s advantages in connecting with relatives in the diaspora and accessing information through Zain internet services.
Chol revealed, “The Zain network, covering 20-25 kilometers, was installed last week by Zain Telecommunication Company. It enhances easy communication with nearby villages such as Agany, Makuacyom, Manwel, Pankot, and Malual Awien, greatly benefiting residents in these areas.”
He added, “Previously, we lacked internet access. Now, we can chat with friends and relatives from India, China, and beyond. The network plays a pivotal role in Pinydit, improving security by reducing incidents of theft. Enhanced communication also boosts local business, enabling farmers to access markets by communicating with buyers in towns who can come and purchase crops.”
Susana Nyanrek Akuei, a woman from Pinydit Madut Akuei, highlighted the usefulness of the telecommunication network. She stated, “Zain helps us with various issues. It is a reliable network, unlike MTN, and Zain airtime subscriptions last longer. You can call Wau, Juba, and Kuajok easily. I am personally very happy because I no longer have to go far searching for MTN airtime transfer. I thank Zain for bringing us this connectivity, as it facilitates quick information sharing during emergencies like assisting pregnant mothers to health facilities.”
Nyanrek expressed gratitude to the government while calling for additional services in their area. She appealed, “Thank you to the government for bringing Zain, but some areas still lack Zain network coverage. Extend Zain to these areas, and we urgently need more health centers. This vast area has only a small health unit, and our market is limited with insufficient goods. We need better roads, especially during the rainy season.”
