Maban County in South Sudan’s Upper Nile has reportedly been experiencing a Zain network outage for over a month, owing to ongoing instability in the state.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj yesterday, several citizens complained the network disconnection had interrupted communication between Maban residents and their relatives elsewhere.
Upper Nile Communications Minister Philip Jiben confirmed the matter and attributed the problem to the repeated assaults by the rebels on Malakal town.
In remarks to Radio Tamazuj on Sunday, the minister stated that various areas in the state are also experiencing similar network cuts. He noted there is a technical problem with an antenna of the Zain Company which was covering Maban County and other areas.
He accused the rebels of damaging one of the antennas after they recaptured the town. The official predicted maintenance on the mobile network as soon as possible.
