Youth reject move to dissolve Lakes State Youth Union

Members of the Lakes State Youth Union have denounced a state ministerial order dissolving their organization and appointing a new interim head.

Members of the Lakes State Youth Union have denounced a state ministerial order dissolving their organization and appointing a new interim head.

The State Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport broke up the organization on Wednesday amid allegations that the Union Chairperson Cirillo Majok was not cooperating with the ministry and had disappeared with the body’s constitution and other legal documents.

The ministry appointed Zechariah Gum Ater to serve as an interim head until the situation is resolved.

Majok told Radio Tamazuj the ministry’s move was illegal and unjustified. He said within the Union’s constitution is not allowed to just hand over the chairperson’s position to someone else until the current chairperson’s term expires.

He said the next step is to form a committee to discuss and resolve the current situation. After that the Union will prepare for legal elections and possible amendments to the constitution.
