Youth overrun a police post in Rumbek East, injure 5 soldiers

Five soldiers were injured, and four rifles were stolen when armed youth overrun a police post in Pacong Payam of Rumbek East County of Lakes State on Monday.

Five soldiers were injured, and four rifles were stolen when armed youth overrun a police post in Pacong Payam of Rumbek East County of Lakes State on Monday.  

Lakes State information minister Stephen Mathiang Deng Monydit told Radio Tamazuj that the youth were on a revenge mission to Malengagok Payam when they clashed with security forces deployed at Pacong.

Mathiang said the planned attack was foiled, and two soldiers wounded were taken to Rumbek State Hospital for treatment while others are receiving treatment in Rumbek East County.

He urged the armed youth to desist from violence and revenge attacks and allow people to cultivate.

Lakes State Police spokesperson Elijah Mabor Makuac said they dispatched security forces after getting intelligence reports of planned attacks in the area.

Mabor said the armed youth managed to steal four rifles, three AK-47s, and one PKM.
