A youth leader in South Sudan’s Mukaya County of Yei River State has appealed to the state government to empower youth in productive activities while discouraging participation in war and violence.
Alemin Joseph told Radio Tamazuj that over the past three years, local youth in the county have been involved in fighting and suffering instead of focusing on development and poverty reduction initiatives in the area.
Joseph mentioned skills such as agricultural production and technical vocational education to fight poverty, unemployment and underdevelopment.
“We need empowerment programs which will help us to work either in government or private institutions than subjecting youth into suffering through the war. We want the governor and the commissioner to introduce programs that will make us the youth productive for the development of this country,” he added.
Meanwhile Augustino Wani Duku the director general in the state ministry of labor and public service recommended the youth to focus on self-employment opportunities, assuring that the government will create a peaceful and stable environment for businesses to thrive.
“Human resources is important and I want the youth to train themselves on vocational programs like brick laying, carpentry and tailoring for self-employment than waiting for white caller jobs from the public sector. Create something for you to help the community,” he advised.
