A youth leader went missing last Friday while hunting in Jonglei State’s Twic East County, a local official said.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Jacob Chol Tor, the county commissioner, identified the missing man as Lial Lul, a youth leader of the displaced community in Panyagoor.
“In the afternoon of 26 January, we had a man who went hunting but he had never returned. The missing man is called Lial Lul and he is a youth leader of the displaced people from Uror County,” he said. “His phone has not been going through and there are rumors that he is being held hostage by people who are speaking a different language.”
According to the commissioner, a search for Lul has been ongoing since Friday, and he is yet to be found.
Peter Latjor, a youth leader in Twic East County also confirmed that Lul is still meeting.
“Lial Lul went hunting on Friday at 3 p.m. but never returned. His phone is with cattle raiders who called us to claim that they killed him and that we should come to collect his phone,” he said. “When we asked about their whereabouts, they did not tell us. We have searched the bushes up to a distance of 10 kilometers but we could not find him.”
