Youth leader denies arrest over financial scandal in Juba

Albino Bol Dhieu, President of South Sudan’s National Youth Union has denied reports that he was arrested by security agents for alleged embezzlement of 1.5 SSP from financial secretary’s office last week.

“These are mere lies, nothing like that happened, it is propaganda,”said Albino. “So I want to tell the people of South Sudan and especially the youth that what has been circulated via media is baseless information, “he added.

In a press statement, the youth leader denied claims that he had embezzled an amount of 1.5 SSP from the union’s office, while calling on the National Ministry of Youth and journalists to prove the accusation.

Albino threatened to file a lawsuit against whoever trying to smear his reputation.

In March 2015, South Sudan youth union representing the country’s 10 states elected Albino with 1,010 votes while Lino Ajang, his main challenger, got 90 votes only. Albino, who is also a leading member of the SPLM faction allied to Kiir, was leading a campaign against deployment of regional troops in Juba.
