A youth initiative, through the Humanitarian Aid Commission, has pledged to provide free meals at five shelter centers for displaced persons in the city of Ad-Dueim, the capital of East Darfur state.

The coordinator of the initiative, Yahya Abu-Asal, told Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that the circumstances faced by the displaced forced them to mobilize contributions from benefactors to provide meals throughout the month of Ramadan.

“The meals were and will continue to be organized in the five centers of Sikka Hadeed, Qubba, Khansa, Model Secondary School, and then at the premises of the Humanitarian Aid Commission,” he said “The kitchen will continue operating until the end of Ramadan.”

Anwar Omar a displaced person staying at the Sikka Hadeed Center, said he was surprised when youths arrived with food for the people at the center in the evening shortly before the time of breaking the fast.

Another IDP, Fatima Ibrahim Mohammed, stated that she is from Nyala in South Darfur State and that she has been through difficult times and the youth initiative to feed the displaced people was a welcome relief.

She thanked the Humanitarian Aid Commission for its efforts in doing good deeds.
