A consortium of ten youth organizations in South Sudan’s capital Juba launched an initiative to educate citizens about important provisions in the signed peace deal and monitor the progress of the implementation phase.
Flora Lukudu Justin, the head of the national dialogue for youths, said in a Tuesday press conference that the initiative shows commitment of young people to participate in peace monitoring.
Flora said their group will work with the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (JMEC) after receiving a two-day training workshop on monitoring and dissemination of peace messages in collaboration with the French embassy.
In a statement, the group said that South Sudan at this stage needs the implementation of peace as enshrined in the agreement.
They called on JMEC to enlighten the general public about the implementation of the peace deal and to work seriously so the country does not return to war and negotiations.
