Youth Initiative for My Nation, a grassroots South Sudanese group, has handed over donated materials to the South Sudan Red Cross Society (SSRCS) in Juba for distribution to conflict-affected citizens in other parts of the county.

The youth organization was recently formed by a group aiming to carry out large-scale fundraising in order to assist the needy families following the outbreak of conflict in South Sudan last December.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, the coordinator for Youth Initiative for My Nation, Stella Gaitano, said that they have given both food and non-food items to the Red Cross office in Juba. “We have submitted a ton and half of food items as well as medicines, blankets and more than 1,000 pieces of clothing for the affected people,” she explained.

For its part, the Red Cross confirmed that it received the assistance from the youth organization. In remarks on Thursday, the public relations officer and fundraising coordinator for the Red Cross, Marial Mayom, stated that necessary arrangements are in place to distribute the assistance to the needy people.

Mayom commended what he termed a ‘great effort’ exerted by the South Sudanese youths to assist the aggrieved populations: “Such an initiative is the first of its kind to be organized by youths to provide generous support to the conflict-stricken people across the county.”
