Youth dies as ‘armed elements’ rustle 60 cattle in Abyei

A 17-year-old youth, Agok Chol Gai, has died after ‘armed elements’ reportedly raided a corral in Glar to rustle 60 head of cattle.

After visiting the scene, about nine kilometres from the Abyei disputed area, the Executive Director of the Abyei area for South Sudan, Bakeware Nayyar Deng, explained to Radio Tamazuj, that “the elements of armed uniformed soldiers came from Defra in northern Abyei.”

Director Deng said that they raided the corral of the cattle owner, Core Medinq and made off with 60 head.

“During the raid, the men fired shots, one of which fatally wounded the young, Agok Chol Gai who was 17 years old,” the director lamented.

“The perpetrators fled back to northern Abyei,” he said, accusing “the Sudanese Armed Forces and their allied militias stationed there” of the crime.

“We informed Unisfa forces about the incident, but they did not pursue the perpetrators,” Director Deng concluded.
