Authorities in Rumbek North County of Lakes State have said that clashes between youths from the Pakam community and Liith section left two people dead and one wounded.
The clashes happened in Jalla cattle camp in Meen Payam on Monday.
The police chief inspector in Rumbek North County, James Nak, told Radio Tamazuj Tuesday that only one person was killed from each side.
“It was on Monday when one person from the Manuer section was killed around Rumbek Central County by youth suspected to be from the Liith section,” he explained. “This is what triggered the Manuer section to attack the Liith section in Meen Payam and they killed one person in revenge.”
According to Nak, security forces have been dispatched to the scene of the clashes and investigations will be carried out.
The Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) coordinator in Lakes State, Daniel Laat Kon, confirmed clashes and resultant deaths and said the state government had deployed forces to calm the situation.
