The Young Stars Football Club was crowned champions of the South Sudan Cup in Torit Town of Eastern Equatoria State after beating Volcano FC 8 goals to 7 in a penalty shootout on Tuesday.
The two teams went into the penalty after a 1:1 draw. Mahadi Raiyat of Young Star started the score line 4 minutes after kickoff before Ibrahim Kaburo of Volcano FC brought them level in the 90th minute.
About thirty teams from the first, second and third divisions participated in the recent South Sudan cup tournament that started on 10th September through 4th October at the Torit football ground.
Volcano FC of the first division emerged as the second while Gumboot Wanderers of the third division emerged third.
Akille Maridi Oling, the President of Torit Local Football Association said, “We are very happy and everybody is very happy, the penalties kick out ended 8 to 7 in favor of Young Stars and this league takes like a month and all the thirty teams first, second and third division all participated in the tournament.”
The winners, Young Stars FC, will represent Eastern Equatoria at the National South Sudan Cup competitions among the champions from across the 10 states of South Sudan.
