Egyptian authorities have arrested a young South Sudanese man who is a member of the street gangs for assaulting an Egyptian national, the head of the South Sudanese community in Egypt said.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday, Santino Akot Deng said some South Sudanese youths who are members of Cairo’s biggest South Sudanese street gangs, assaulted the Egyptian national in the area of Al-Maadi and left him with injuries.
"South Sudanese youths who are members of the Outlaws and Lost Boys entered into a fight with Egyptians using knives and machetes. Egyptian authorities arrested one of them and are still searching for the rest,” he explained.
Deng warned South Sudanese youths in Egypt against engaging in violent activities.
The community leader, however, said they are in consultation with Egyptian authorities to ensure that the matter is amicably resolved.
He appealed to South Sudanese in Egypt to avoid engaging in hate speech and spreading harmful propaganda through social media.
