Authorities in Lakes State have dismissed and detained a police investigator for attacking and breaking the arm of a public prosecutor in Yirol West County.
The incident occurred on Thursday after the public prosecutor asked the police investigator to release a person unlawfully detained for more than eight days in police custody over alleged stolen gun from Mvolo County of Western Equatoria State.
A senior legal counsel and the head of legal administration and public prosecutor in Lakes State, Philemon Alphonse Ikolli, told Radio Tamazuj that Machar Makuei Chol, who was deployed in Yirol West County, was thrown to the ground and his arm broken by the police investigator who attacked him.
“I condemned it in the strongest terms possible because a policeman who is supposed to work under the public prosecutor decided to take this kind of a criminal act. We are doing what the law provides for,” he said.
The Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) coordinator, Daniel Laat Kon, told Radio Tamazuj that they had received information about the unfortunate incident.
“It is like the police do not even know their work because their role is to implement the law, and not to violate it,” he said.
Kon advised refresher courses for the law enforcers and familiarization with the law.
Police Spokesperson Elijah Mabor Makuac also confirmed the incident, saying that the right arm of the public prosecutor was broken.
Makuac said people intervened and the public prosecutor was evacuated to hospital and the officer has been arrested.
