A student who was accused of the murder of his younger sister is taking his secondary leaving exams at the Maburzeet prison in Yirol West County of Lakes State.
Earlier this month, a young girl identified as Yom Mayor died after being tortured by her brother, Thon Mayor, for allegedly being pregnant.
21-year-old Thon Mayor and six others were immediately arrested in Adior Payam of Yirol East County after the incident and later transferred to Maburzeet prison.
John Meen Ruei, the invigilator of the murder suspect, told radio Tamazuj on Monday that the 21-year-old man is taking his examinations in prison as a private candidate.
“When I asked Thon if he has been revising his notes, he told me that he had some notes to revise, but most of the notes are at home. Even the phone he could use for reading was confiscated,” Ruei said.
“I don’t know what happened. This student was in Yirol prison, where he sat for five subjects before being brought here. He is left with only two subjects and will complete his exams by Wednesday,” he added.
Meanwhile, Daniel Diordit, a prisons officer at the Maburzeet prison, said: “Thon Mayor was first arrested in Yirol East County and later transferred to Yirol West County prison over the murder of his sister.”
Daniel pointed out that the murder suspect would be tried after the exams.
The South Sudan Certificate of Secondary Education exams, which kicked off across the country on the 20th of March, are scheduled to end by the 31st of March.
