The Commissioner of Yirol West County in Lakes State has resigned from his position, citing administrative disagreements with the state governor.
Andrew Acheng Anhiem, who was appointed on the SPLM-IO ticket, claimed Governor Rin Tueny unilaterally appointed county officials without his knowledge, an act he termed as sabotage to his administration.
In his resignation letter on Thursday, Andrew cited denial to use the commissioner’s residence, intimidation by security agents and arbitrary arrests of SPLM-IO members in the area.
” I hereby tender in this resignation from being a commissioner of Yirol West County to allow a chance for the people of Yirol West to have another commissioner who will serve them at this critical time of peace implementations,” Andrew said in his letter.
In an interview with Radio Tamazuj on Friday, Poth Madit Dut, the Deputy Governor and the SPLM-IO chairperson in Lakes State confirmed Andrew’s resignation.
“Yes we have received the resignation letter from the SPLM-IO commissioner and it has been approved and soon his replacement will be appointed to fill the vacuum,” Dut said.
According to the revitalized peace agreement, decision-making in the government shall be in a spirit of collegial collaboration.
It also requires the state governments to consult and cooperate in the interest of peace and stability.
