Yirol suffers outbreak of measles

Residents of Yirol West Country are dealing with an outbreak of measles, according to the Eastern Lakes State Ministry of Health.

The ministry reports that 25 patients were admitted to Yirol hospital between February and April of this year. In February ten people were admitted, and in April the number went up to 15.

Yirol West County disease surveillance officer Abraham Maluac Amedong said, “Last week, I collected five samples and sent them to Juba and I received call that it has been confirm as measles outbreak by the laboratory technicians in Juba,”

He added that people need to be aware of the disease outbreak in the cattle camps and other areas from Yirol East County.

Minister of Health Dr. Achol Marial Deng confirmed saying, “My ministry is aware of the outbreak, now we are preparing to make control” by discouraging travel from affected areas.

Marial added that all children from one to four years age need to be vaccinated immediately.
