The mayor of Yei River state municipality, Al-fathi Morgan has vowed to prioritize development and service delivery.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Monday, Al-Fathi said he will work to ensure delivery of clean drinking water, functional electric power supply, road reconstruction and urban development.
“As new mayor, priorities will focus on extending clean drinking water to unreached areas of Yei town. We also need to ensure Yei Electric Cooperative is well set and functions efficiently and effectively to improve business and security in Yei town,” Alfathi said Monday.
The new mayor, appointed barely three weeks ago into office, urged people to join hands and support local government initiatives.
“We don’t want Yei town to remain as old as it was, we want all the kiosks removed off main roads, we want to see permanent and nice buildings in Yei town. We want more investors to come to Yei and do development programs in the area”, said Al-Fathi.
According to the mayor, revenues would be generated using all possible means available to ensure the municipality’s development programs run, regardless of the financial challenges facing the state.
“We need to change the outlook of this town and this will not happen if we do not come together and share new ideas,” he said.
Located 100 miles from the South Sudanese capital, Juba, Yei River state borders Uganda and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
