Local authorities in South Sudan’s Yei town have launched an inspection of expired goods and services under circulation in the town centre.
Azariah Khamis Noah, the town clerk for Yei town council told Radio tamazuj that the move is aimed at protection of the population from the consumption of harmful goods.
Azariah says the inspection exercise which targets pharmacies, clincks, and shops, hotels among others will continue throughout the year.
He calls on the business operators to comply with health and safety regulations while urging the public to report cases of expired goods to the relevant authorities for immediate action.
The town clerk confirmed that, the council has already confiscated quantities of expired goods which he says will be burnt into ashes and levy charges on those who don’t comply with public health measures.
“The inspection is mainly targeting drug shops and expired goods in the town council. We came with this idea because we want to protect our people from consuming expired goods. Some few days we have collected many expired drugs and goods in the shops and we have already collected all these expired goods. The charges are that we are going to burnt all these drugs and charge a fine of 500 South Sudanese pounds”
