South Sudan’s Yei River State legislative assembly has unanimously passed its 2017/2018 fiscal budget, prioritizing peace and security in the state.
On Monday, the state legislators passed 392, 687, 333 South Sudanese Pounds budget in its fourth reading.
Addressing reporters at the parliament, Daniel Lokoroto Arama, the chairperson of the parliamentary committee for economic affairs said the budget will be divided into three main sectors.
“As usual, we have the three main sectors of the government and under this, the government is mandatory to spend on salary which costs 122,700,000 South Sudanese Pounds, operating cost is 106,900,000 SSPs and capital expenditure cost 88,300,000 South Sudanese Pounds,” he said.
“The state government’s priorities focuses on implementation of the grass root peace agreement signed with the state opposition forces, maintenance of security in the state, education, rule of law and health,” he added.
The lawmaker further said the budget will be partly funded by the central government and partly by local revenue collection within the state.
