Yei River state has been split into thirteen counties in an effort to bolster a struggling economy, local government officials tell Radio Tamazuj.
The state has been operating under four counties since the creation of the 28 states last year.
Yei River state information minister Stephen said the creation of the new counties is meant to bring services and development closer to the people in the rural communities. The county comissioners for each county have not been chosen.
“We are under economic crisis but the state government has carried out thorough research and have identified natural resources like the land, rivers, forest and the human resources to raise money for the development and service delivery to the people in all the thirteen counties” Landeau said.
Landeau listed the thirteen counties as follows.
“In these thirteen counties, we have Kajo-Keji County with its headquarters in Kajo-keji, Lainya County, with headquarters in Lainya, Yei County with headquarters in Yei, Kupera County, Morobo County, Lujulo County, Nyepo County, Tore County, Otogo County, Liwolo county, Kangapo county, Mukaya county, and lastly Mugwo County and congratulations for the people of Yei River state and this will follow by appointment of New county commissioners”
