Yei River State Minister of Information Steven Ladu says that last night there was an attack on a checkpoint at Mitika Boma of Lasu Payam of Yei River County but the SPLA repulsed the attackers.

He said this morning that the security situation returned to normal in the village following the attack. A local official in a separate interview said the attack was related to what had happened in Juba since before last weekend.

Ladu commented, “I would like to say that Morobo today the security situation is normal and people are busy with their business and with school.”

The commissioner o fthe county says he has gone to Mitika to see what happened. He reported that the attackers went away and there is no displacement there.

Morobo County Commissioner Toti Jacob said Wednesday at midday that his county is calm, adding that businesses, schools and movement is as usual. He said though some families are crossing to Uganda in the last few days, but he downplayed it as a small number.

He added that South Sudan’s government could not allow its citizens to flee but instead fight hunger through cultivation in their various residences.

“I cannot tell how many people have crossed to Uganda. They are not using the official roads; they are using smaller routes to cross to Uganda. There is no reason for the people to go to Uganda. Ceasefire has been announced, we need the people to cultivate other than running. It is what happened in Juba that caused the fever here in my county,” Toti said.

This is a developing story.
