The Governor of Yei River state David Lokonga Moses has appointed a new deputy governor and a county commissioner to replace officials who defected from the government.
Lokonga appointed Augustino Kiri, the commissioner of Lainya County, as his deputy replacing Abraham Wani Yoana who defected to the opposition three months ago.
He also appointed a third commissioner to fill the vacancy created by the promotion of Augustino to the position of deputy governor. Eresto Taban is named as the new commissioner for Lainya County.
Denis Lasuba Paul is named as the new commissioner for Yei River County replacing Cosmas Bidali Wori-Kojo who also defected to the armed opposition nearly two months ago.
A state official told Radio Tamazuj that the new appointments are made to fill the vacant positions and open up dialogue with armed opposition groups so as to end the ongoing conflict in the state. Ladu described the security situation of Yei State as relatively calm.
“The first expectation of the governor is to build peace in the community and dialogue with the armed groups because the state has been bleeding and now there is need to open up dialogue so as to bring the suffering of the people to an end. The government of the state is working very hard with the national government to improve the security situation in the state,” said the senior state official.
