The Yei River County Legislative Council approved its financial budget for 2023/ 2024, totaling 1,213,241,770 South Sudan Pounds.
This budget aims to address various critical factors, including good governance, quality education and healthcare access, food security, and economic prosperity.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Friday, Speaker Lado Milla said that the budget was passed with the exception of a 400 percent salary increment for government workers, which had not been incorporated into the budget.
“We have passed the budget, but what we have pending is the issue of the 400 percent. We have not passed it because it has not appeared in the budget,” he said.
“In my consultation, I learned at the national level that they approved the 400 percent increment. However, upon reaching the county level, we did not find the 400 percent included in the budget. We are actively seeking to address this matter because we cannot pass something we have not seen, as it might lead to complaints,” he added.
Ezbon Taban, the Executive Director of Yei River County, emphasized the need for collaboration to generate more income and promote development within the county.
He encouraged teamwork, saying, “Let us work together. There may be challenges, but by working collectively, we can generate more income for the development of Yei River County. Especially in terms of monitoring, we will collaborate to rectify any identified mistakes, including addressing the 400 percent salary increment when it becomes relevant. We can work as a team without any issues.”
Yei River County has recently experienced an influx of returnees and internally displaced persons (IDPs). This influx has prompted the county government to consider enhancing socio-economic structures to improve the livelihoods of its residents across the county.
