The management of the Yei Electric cooperation have announced plans to shut down the power supply if they fail to secure fuel to run their generators.
Laurence Malish announced that their fuel reserve may not last for the next two weeks. Malish said they have failed to secure fuel from Uganda due to closure of Yei-Kaya road.
He also outlined that most of the clients using the power have fled the area to Uganda.
“In the months of June and July we had encountered a lot of loses because many of our clients have failed to pay our bills. For the last two months we have experienced huge deficits that is crippling our operations and purchasing fuel is becoming an issue,” Malish said.
The manger called on the government to restore security before the situation gets out of hand. The station was funded in part by USAID.
