Authorities in Yei River County in Central Equatoria plan a massive tree-planting campaign in June in order to restore shade trees and improve the environment.
Commissioner of the Forestry Department David Taban told Eye Radio that cutting trees for charcoal in the Yei area has affected rainfall rates and caused more vulnerability to wind.
He urged citizens and farmers saying, “Please, do plant trees. Within your compound you can have maybe a fruit tree and a shade tree.” Taban appealed to residents of Yei to colaborate with the forestry department during the upcoming campaign.
