Members of parliament in South Sudan’s Yei River State on Monday passed the 2019/2020 fiscal year budget.
The head of parliament's finance committee, Lokoroto Daniel Arama, told Radio Tamazuj on that lawmakers passed a budget of over 800 million SSP.
“Today [Monday], Yei River State parliament approved the budget for the government of Yei River State to the tune of 872.1 million SSP and this budget is meant to meet the salaries of government employees, use of goods, capital cost and the rest of the budget will be kept as reserve,” Arama explained.
He added, “in terms of figures, salaries will consume 126.9 million SSP, operating cost will consume 223 million SSP, capital cost will be 263.6 million SSP and transfers will consume 228.5 million SSP. The other expenses will consume 10 million SSP and reserve fund to the tune of 20 million SSP”.
According to the lawmaker, the largest share of the 2019/2020 budget will go to service delivery in the areas of education, health, agriculture, road network and humanitarian assistance.
“The vision of the government in this budget is peace building and economic recovery, through service delivery and for this reason, the parliament redirected 20 million SSP for the state rehabilitation commission for food assistance, 15 million SSP for agriculture and 15 million SSP for road network to areas of production,” he stressed.
Last year, MPs in the state assembly passed a vote of no confidence against the former finance minister over poor financial accountability.
