Police authorities are searching for three men who disappeared recently in Yei River County of Central Equatoria state, according to County Commissioner Bedale Cosmos.
Three men went missing in Yei on 24 November. Last week, the family of one of the men, Mawa Malish Isaac, petitioned the Yei mayor to know his whereabouts and the reason for his ‘abduction.’
The family alleged that Mawa was taken away by gunmen in a vehicle with SPLA Commando colors.
Cosmos told Radio Tamazuj that police authorities are searching for the three men. He said preliminary investigations confirmed the perpetrators masked themselves so nobody could recognize them.
He hinted that there are government officials in his county whose “mission and responsibilities are unknown.”
The comissioner condemned in strongest terms what he termed as “negative practices” carried out by these officials independent of local oversight.
Cosmos said he deployed security forces in the county to monitor movement of suspects and tighten security during the Christmas feast to prevent further incidents.
