Yei official says security situation is stable

A state government official in the proposed Yei River State says the security situation has returned to normal following deadly attacks on government officials over the weekend.

A state government official in the proposed Yei River State says the security situation has returned to normal following deadly attacks on government officials over the weekend.

At least two officials were reported killed and several others injured in an ambush on a government convoy by unknown gunmen along the Yei-Morobo road on Saturday evening.

Stephen Lado, information minister in the state, told Radio Tamazuj that the Yei- Kaya road is passable and that commercial trucks are moving without hindrances. He pointed that the ambush targeted the government convoy only.

Lado added that all government officials who sustained injuries were taken to the hospital for treatment, saying they sustained minor injuries.

The minister disputed reports about clashes in Yei town on Saturday night. He claimed that the shooting started when police officers were pursuing criminals who attempted to break into one of the shops in the town.
