Yei state information minister has claimed that the security situation in the area was gradually improving. Minister Stephen Ladu Onesmo says local residents who fled to the bush in Loka and Lainya areas are returning back following insecurity in July.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj today, Ladu pointed out that unconfirmed numbers of families from Yei are travelling to Juba these days due to circulating rumours about insecurity, besides the harsh humanitarian conditions in the area, saying citizens are moving normally along the Yei-Juba road without any problem.
The state minister noted that members of the internally displaced persons in Lainya County have started receiving assortment of food items after thousands suffered for many months without food.
“The World Food Programme has given them food, it has become regular, the organization has started to give them food every month, “said Ladu.
Ladu called upon armed groups to lay down their guns and join peace for restoration of stability in the area.” I want to see peace, people should work for peace, anyone fighting against the government should come and join peace,” said Ladu.
