Yei state information minister has issued assuring messages arguing that the security situation in the area was gradually improving.

Minister Stephen Ladu Onesmo claimed security in the state has normalised after a presidential investigation committee visited the area with the view to understand the cause.

“The visit of the president’s delegation has brought calm and stability to Yei. Kajo-Keji is calm and in Lainya people are returning home and Yei county the situation is calm and the roads are now open more specially Yei-Juba road, Yei Lasu and Yei-Ombasi” said Ladu.
But residents in the area say they have not seen any change, asserting Yei is unsafe.

“As I speak to you now there was shooting in the areas of Sopiri and Lutaya and some of the residents have fled into the bushes while others into the town, a resident who did not want to be identified because of the fear of reprisal told radiotamazuj on Friday.

Ladu is keen downplay the intensity of the situation, saying calm has returned to Lainya and Kajo-Keji counties. He says that the roads leading to Yei-Juba, Yei-Lasu and Yei-Lasu are operational. The official expressed commitment of the state government for peaceful dialogue as the only viable way to ending the suffering of the people of the state.
