Yei hosts over 3,000 IDPS from Wonduruba: official

The town of Yei in Central Equatoria State has seen an increased number of internally displaced people coming from Wonduruba in Lainya County.

The deputy mayor Silvano Ali confirmed to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday that they have received over 3,000 IDPS from Wonduruba Payam of Lainya County.

“Most of them are women and children,” he said.

Ali said they arrived in large numbers last week and they are putting up with their relatives including some large families of 10 to 15 people.

“We need them to be taken to the camp and tomorrow, Friday, we shall be meeting NGOs whereby we shall discuss over the issue,” Ali stated.

The deputy mayor said that until now the IDPs that came from Wonduruba have not received any food since they arrived. Food donations in Yei have only been given to those IDPs who came from Western Equatoria, he said.

The county is also hosting more than 1,500 IDPs from Mundri and 1,500 IDPs from Maridi, he said, while pointing out that the flow of displaced from Western Equatoria and Wonduruba has stopped.
