A local female activist in Yei River State has appealed to the state government to drill bore holes noting that many locals are still finding it hard to get clean water.
Activist Mama Hawa Adams told Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday that many women and children have returned to their homes, but they are finding it difficult to access clean drinking water.
She said that water access has been a problem and that the state government must intervene and help locals get water before heavy rains in the area.
“Most of the bore holes in the town have broken down and our appeal to the government and NGOs is to drill more bore holes in Yei and the nearby villages,” she said.
Hawa noted that most of the women are still fetching water from rivers and wells which she said could have adverse effects on health.
Earlier this year, senior officials from the directorate of water and sanitation said there was no money to drill or rehabilitate boreholes in Yei town.
