Yei government announces free education for primary school pupils

The Ministry of Education in Yei River State has announced that it will fund free education for all primary school pupils in the state.

The Ministry of Education in Yei River State has announced that it will fund free education for all primary school pupils in the state.

The area of Yei that remained largely peaceful throughout the two years of civil war that preceded South Sudan’s August 2015 peace agreement is now experiencing rampant insecurity.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Monday, Amule Felix, Director General at Yei’s Ministry of Education, said they are trying to implement a circular sent by the National Ministry of Education that aims at improving learners’ enrolment to access education in the state.

“This is very important because it will improve the enrolment and provide the opportunity for children who have not been going to schools in Yei,” said Amule.

Meanwhile, Jacob Malish, a father of four children, criticized the state government for failing to introduce the program before the ongoing conflict erupted in state.

“I am not happy, I have already sent all my children to Uganda because of this insecurity created in Yei, and I am not so sure if this policy will work out well,” said Jacob.
