Yei gets over 4 million euros for health projects

The minister of health in South Sudan’s troubled Yei River state says his ministry has received 4.9 million Euros to support health projects both in the rural and urban areas of Yei River state.

The minister of health in South Sudan’s troubled Yei River state says his ministry has received 4.9 million Euros to support health projects both in the rural and urban areas of Yei River state.

The donation which came from, United States agency for international development (USAID), European commission (EC), Sweden and UK aid will be challenged through health implementing partners like Action Africa help internation (AAHI), South Sudan health association (SSUHA) and American relief commission (ARC).

Health minister Kogo Manase says, the fifteen months project will improve service delivery, health management information system and nutritional interventions.

Kogo thanked the international community and non Governmental organisations for standing with the people of South Sudan particularly Yei River state which has witnessed a dire need for health support.  The project, according to the minister, will cover all the rural health facilities in all the thirteen counties of the state.

“Basically these funds are given to us to strengthen our health services within the hospitals and the primary health care centres in the rural areas. The funds will cater for health care infrastructural improvement, drug supplies and nutritional supplement particularly for the malnourished children” said Kogo.

Insecurity in Yei River area has let to destruction of health facilities and prevention of health partners from extending health services to the huge civil population in the rural areas of the state.
