The Anglican Bishop of Yei Diocese is urging the newly appointed governor of the state and his cabinet to work as a team towards bringing about lasting peace and stability to the state.
Bishop Hillary Luate Adeba said the people of Yei are very tired of the two years conflict in the state saying it’s high time for the new state leadership embrace peace, unity, reconciliation in the area.
“Together you must unite to promote peace, protecting the people of Yei River State, guaranteeing their safety and enhancing freedoms to all individuals. Let people be allowed to move to their farmlands without security threats,’’ he said.
He went on to say that security for the people of Yei is the responsibility of the governor and all stakeholders.
The religious leader also appealed to the state leadership to ensure that there should be total respect human rights and freedoms where the civil population feels secure to enjoy freedom of movement, access to basic services. Adeba noted that once peace and stability is achieved, Yei residents who fled the conflict will return to their homes.
He further condemned recent incidents of night shootouts saying the security forces should deal with those involved in crime.
