Yei County hosting 280 households from Mundri and Maridi

Yei River County authorities say that they are hosting a total of 280 families of people displaced by violence in Western Equatoria State and elsewhere in Central Equatoria State.

Samuel Henry, Yei River Commissioner told Radio Tamazuj that there are 1,184 individuals who arrived from Maridi and Mundri County of Western Equatoria State on different dates.

Others have passed through the county on their way to Uganda including 400 whom he said passed through last week.

He said that some of the displaced people are living in the Episcopal Church and others have put up with relatives. He noted that since they arrived the displaced people have not received any food items from UN agencies but they are preparing to give them some small food under his care.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Information in Western Equatoria State, Daniel Zingifuaboro told Radio Tamazuj in the separate interview that he has no information how many citizens of his state crossed into Uganda.

“We have no information whether there are displaced that crossed to Uganda but it was not a surprise to me to hear that because the situation in Mundri West is so bad since we communicated earlier that many people are living in a bad situation in the bush,” he said.

Asked whether people are returning to their homes, Daniel said they cannot return home because they are fearing. “That is why we are looking for the possible way for sending church leaders to created good relationships through dialogue between the army and civilians,” he said.
