Yei Commissioner warns motorists over excessive festive season drinking

The Commissioner of Yei River County of Central Equatoria State (CES), Emmanuel Taban Seme, has warned motorists to desist from irresponsible consumption of alcohol that could endanger lives during the Christmas and the New Year celebrations.

Delivering his Christmas message on Wednesday, Seme said that as people embarked on the celebrations across the country, the Yei River residents should be responsible and peaceful.

“As we embark on the celebrations across the country, I urge all residents of Yei River County to desist from irresponsible activities that endanger lives. I urge motorists to observe the traffic regulations and avoid excessive alcohol consumption and other unacceptable behaviors,” he said.

The Commissioner further directed the members of the organized forces in Yei River County to uphold professionalism and intensify efforts towards creating a peaceful environment for the Christmas and the New Year celebrations.

“All the security apparatus are directed to be vigilant and act responsibly in carrying out their duties while ensuring safety of the residents and their properties,” Seme said.

He reiterated his call to the country residents to renew their faith in the Christian values of forgiveness, kindness and love for one another.

“In our jubilation during the Christmas festival, let us remember that the spirit of Christmas is peace, love and goodwill to all. Let us demonstrate the Christian values of forgiveness, kindness and service to humanity, and I call upon the residents of Yei River County to make this Christmas peaceful and safe for everyone.”

Retired Yei Catholic Bishop Erkolano Lodu Tombe stated that Jesus Christ came to save the world and as Christians celebrates His birth, let them open their hearts to receive the light of God.

Jesus Christ is the savior of the world and God the creator calls on us during Christmas to open our eyes to see the light, he said.

Bishop Tombe further emphasized that: “Christmas leads us to Christ’s death, his resurrection and his departure to heaven to fulfill the mission of his gospel.”
