Yei citizens launch clean-up drive in preparation for independence anniversary

Citizens in Yei River County of Central Equatoria State on Thursday turned up for a cleaning campaign in preparation for the 12th independence anniversary.

Citizens in Yei River County of Central Equatoria State on Thursday turned up for a cleaning campaign in preparation for the 12th independence anniversary.

The state government has recently decided to conduct the 12th anniversary of South independence on July 9 in Kajo-Keji County.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj from Yei town, Gaga Frank Justin, a spokesperson of the Yei River County Youth Association, said: “Here in Yei, we are really preparing very well for the independence anniversary. Of course, it is a very important day in our lives. This is a concern that came from the citizens that they need to do some activities.”

 “The government of Central Equatoria state is going to Kajo-Keji County this year, but this cannot prevent us from preparing for the celebrations in Yei. So, what we are doing now as youth, as citizens of Yei, we decided to conduct some activities, including cleaning,” he said.

According to the youth association spokesperson, apart from the cleaning campaign in Yei town, they also have other activities like sports.

Lodwe Richard, a resident of Yei, said: “The people of Yei have to understand that we have understood from the past history what level of factors have separated us, but it is time for the 12th anniversary to be a year of difference.”

Richard called on the youth across the country to focus on the development of South Sudan.
