Local residents in South Sudan’s Yei River State have demanded that all communities should be represented equally in the national government, besides the provision of development services equally in the country.
The residents gave their views during a consultative meeting with South Sudan’s presidential advisor on special affairs Clement Wani Konga last week.
The locals pointed out that the lack of representation was among the root causes of the ongoing conflict in South Sudan.
Tabule Moses, a local resident of Yei, called for major reforms in the public sector for the sake of development. “There is a need for reforms in the public service sector. People should be employed based on merits not by nepotism,” he said.
Rose Sida, another resident in Yei town, blamed the national government for offering scholarships to specific regions while neglecting some areas.
Former Central Equatoria state governor and presidential advisor for special affairs Clement Wani Konga had asked National Security Services to allow freedom of speech to address issues facing the country through the ongoing national dialogue.
