Bodaboda operators in the town of Yei have been cautioned against over speeding and excessive alcohol consumption during this year’s festive season.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday, Emmanuel Duku, the chairperson of Yei commercial motorcycles also known as boda-boda, said his office has registered cases of bodaboda operators who over speed while others operate while drunk.

He urged the operators not to over speed and drink as it is against the law.

“We must not drink too much alcohol so that our customers respect us. If you want to drink, do it after work so that we control accidents occurring in town,” Duku said.

On his part, Ale Satimon, the youth union chairperson in Yei River State, called for the creation of awareness on the dangers of excessive alcohol consumption and over speeding in and outside Yei town.

“You should not drink while riding on high speed. We need the boda-boda leadership to inform others to take care of themselves so that we don’t end up in crimes while celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. We need to celebrate Christmas in peace,” he stressed.

The motorcycle taxis have become a necessity in many cities like Yei where there is no reliable public transport due to the lack of paved roads.
